Promit Mukhopadhyay, a graduating senior at Rutgers Preparatory School (RPS) and resident of nearby Franklin, is charting a standout path toward a career in robotics. Named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist earlier this school year, Promit was recently selected as one of three winners from the Hillsborough area and earned a corporate-sponsored scholarship from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals for his academic excellence.

Beyond the classroom, Promit has demonstrated a passion for scientific discovery and innovation. He earned the prestigious Dr. Edward R. Oertell Scholarship after achieving the highest academic honors at his school in the 2023–24 year. In 2023, he participated in the Waksman Student Scholars Program at Rutgers University, where he conducted hands-on molecular biology and bioinformatics research involving DNA sequencing and protein function analysis.

A driven problem-solver and team leader, Promit was one of the organizers behind RPS’s 2022 24-Hour MEGA Hackathon. His project, “GO Stem,” created with fellow students, earned the Business Innovator Award for its interactive gameplay designed to promote sustainability through STEM learning.

Whether in the lab, at the computer or organizing impactful events, Promit is using his talents to engineer a smarter, more sustainable future.

The future is certainly looking bright in Hillsborough! If you know another Star Student making an impact, nominate them today to be featured on Patch!
