SCVTHS Students Promote Career & Technical Education to the Youth

This library event included a story time and scavenger hunt activity in which children ages 4-12 learned about different careers.

Kushi, Saanvi, and Shreya decided to focus the promotion of CTE toward a younger audience. Thus, they visited the SCSNJ Library of Hillsborough, as it is a cornerstone of education for children and adults alike. Many students from across Somerset County come to this library to read, learn, and foster their creativity. They planned to organize a storytime event in which they read the book Jobs In My Neighborhood by Gladys Rosa-Mendoza. This book highlighted different important jobs, and they asked thoughtful questions throughout the event. Many of the attendees found the event engaging and enjoyed hearing about numerous career possibilities.

Additionally, Kushi, Saanvi, and Shreya organized a career-themed scavenger hunt that provided an interactive opportunity for the children to learn about a myriad of potential jobs and careers. This scavenger hunt involved a series of pictures depicting numerous jobs, such as chefs, lawyers, doctors, and other careers. They also received a sheet of clues to help them find these pictures around the library. In addition to the pictures, they could also read short passages of information about the specific job. Once the children had completed the scavenger hunt, we provided a series of prizes such as stickers. In summary, the story time and scavenger hunt, which both took place on March 1st, were successful. The children who attended enjoyed learning about different careers and participating in an interactive, engaging game.
