5 Things to Do at Nearby Reservation

Mahlon Dickerson has enough to keep you busy for the summer.

The weather says summer. It’s warm, sunny and beautiful out. What better way to spend the lazy days of summer than at a local park? offers you all sorts of options for things to do. And here are five of them:

  1. You Can Go Camping: The reservation offers for camping areas. Check out the web site for a brochure or campground availability request forms.
  2. You Can Have a Picnic: Tables and pavilions abound for the picnic oriented. You can use a charcoal grill to make some yummies, and then work off the food you ate with a walk on the trails, a ball game or a round of horseshoes.
  3. You Can Exercise: Besides walking the many hiking trails available at Mahlon Dickerson, there are exercise areas, fitness stations and ball fields. Spend the summer at the park, and you’ll be looking trim in no time! You can also go snowshoeing in the winter, so exercise is not limited to warm weather.
  4. You Can Get Married: If you’re single, that is. Patch does not advocate polygamy. But if you’re in the market for a wedding, you can have your ceremony in the park. If you’re more of a traditionalist and want to have the ceremony indoors, the park offers a wealth of spots for beautiful pictures.
  5. You can Check Out This Spot: Mahlon Dickerson boasts the highest point in Morris County along the Pine Swamp Trail. That might be a little tough to trek to for wedding photos, but it could make for a great hike with the proper attire.
