Missing PA Fisherman Found Dead In Delaware River: Police

The man was fishing on a river near Cherry Island State Park with another fisherman when the boat capsized, authorities said.

DEERPARK, NJ - A Pennsylvania fisherman missing for nearly two weeks was found dead in the Delaware River on Monday, authorities said.

William G. Vandyke, 47, of York, P.a., was fishing on a river near Cherry Island State Park around 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 with another fisherman when the boat capsized, New York State Police said in a statement.

The other fisherman was found along the shore and given medical treatment.

A search for the missing fisherman was subsequently conducted in the area of the Delaware River in Deerpark, N.Y., police said. Deerpark borders both Pike County in P.a. and Sussex County in N.J.

It was not immediately clear where along the Delaware River Vandyke’s body was recovered.

New York State Police thanked New Jersey State Police, United State Park Rangers, Sparrowbush Fire, Port Jervis Fire, Matamoras Fire and Swift Water Rescue Teams from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania for their efforts in the search.
