Mold Pushes Back First Day Of School In Hopatcong

Students will get an extra two days of summer after mold was found in two schools.

HOPATCONG, NJ — Mold found in two Hopatcong schools has pushed back the first day of school for all Hopatcong students, the district announced.

Instead of heading back to school on Sept. 6 as planned, students will now head back on Sept. 10. All scheduled open houses at all schools have also been cancelled. It was not immediately clear how this will affect scheduling for the rest of the school year, or June graduation.

The mold was found in Hudson Maxim Elementary School and Tulsa Trail Elementary School, officials said. All rooms are being tested to see what remediation is needed and, dehumidifiers have been brought into the classrooms in the meantime.
