Out On Bail, Alleged North Jersey Cocaine Dealer Caught With 4 Pounds of Pot: Cops

Dean Gobel had been indicted on 2014 charges and allegedly caught receiving a shipment of marijuana this week, police report.

A Sparta man indicted for selling cocaine in 2014 and free on bail was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 3 for allegedly receiving a mail package containing four pounds of marijuana, Sparta Township Police Lt. John-Paul Beebe announced.

Information was received by the police department claiming a package containing the marijuana was scheduled to be delivered from out of state to a Sterling Hill Road address, Beebe said.

An investigation between multiple agencies began and observed the package be delivered to Dean Gobel, 25, who took possession of it and attempted driving away from the residence a short time later, Beebe said.

Gobel was stopped and his residence and vehicle were both searched. In addition to the four pounds of marijuana, police also seized $4,580 in cash, ballistic body armor and drug packaging materials, Beebe said.

Gobel was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and lodged in Sussex County Jail with a court appearance scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5.

Gobel was arrested in August 2014 after a months-long, multi-agency investigation for outstanding charges for the distribution of cocaine, according to the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Following that arrest, police found Gobel in possession of 20 ounces of cocaine, or half a kilogram, with a street value between $20,000 and $30,000. Gobel was charged in that incident with first-degree distribution of five ounces or more of cocaine, first-degree possession with the intent to distribute five ounces or more of cocaine, and second-degree distribution of one-half ounce or more of cocaine.

According to Beebe, Gobel was free on $250,000 bail when he was arrested this week.
