Sorensen, McGovern, Zywicki Widen Sparta School Board Race Lead
There are five candidates vying for three seats on the Sparta Township Board of Education.

SPARTA, NJ— The polls are closed and the ballots are cast and soon Sparta Township residents will know who will be representing them on their board of education.
The Sparta School Board has three open seats for three-year terms with Joanne Hoover, Michael J. McGovern, Robert R. Zywicki, Richard Snellings and Christa Sorensen looking to fill them. Vanessa Serrano is running for a one-year term.

- Christa Sorensen: 5,401
- Michael J. McGovern: 6,333
- Robert R. Zywicki: 5,975
- Richard Snellings: 4,592
- Joanne Hoover: 2,463
Vanessa Serrano is running uncontested for a one-year term with 5,850 votes.
Across Sussex County, 33 of 37 precincts have reported results, which is approximately 89.19 percent. Tuesday was the last day ballots could be received in New Jersey. Provisional ballot tabulation was set to begin Wednesday.
Since the change to this year's election was announced by Gov. Phil Murphy because of the coronavirus, there have been many questions about how the process will work.
Every the ballot sent through the mail had to be postmarked by Nov. 3. It must be received by your county's election boards by 8 p.m. on Nov. 10.
"Every vote should be safe. Every vote should be secure. Every vote should be counted," Murphy said of the process.
