SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ — Sparta Township has been recognized as a Sustainable Jersey city after meeting a minimum of 150 sustainability action points, the township announced Monday. Sparta Township is one of 100 towns to attain the certification in 2019.

According to a release from the town, Sparta proved action on 150 sustainability points, created a "green team" and met eight additional priority actions ranging from creating an environmental commission to building a municipal on-site solar system to implementing a community paper shredding day.

Sustainable Jersey said the state's total 453 certified towns have worked to grow energy efficiency, improve health and wellness, reduce waste, sustain local economies, protect natural resources and advance the arts.
