6th Person Charged In Narcotics Raid At Jersey City Deli

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A sixth person has been arrested and charged in connection with February's raid of a Jersey City deli, where detectives found cocaine, heroin and cash "in various locations throughout the storefront."
Jamari Champagne, 20, of Jersey City, was arrested Tuesday by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Gang Task Force in connection with an ongoing investigation into Kaelyn Deli and Grocery, located at 156 Martin Luther King Dr.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Champagne was arrested outside the store and had more than 100 glassine envelopes of suspected heroin.

Champagne's arrest comes months after authorities conducted a court-authorized search of store. Prosecutors said they found "various quantities of suspected cocaine, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and money in various locations throughout the storefront."

Five people were charged with various narcotics offenses, including conspiracy and distribution, prosecutors said:
- Donte Carlisle, 32, of Jersey City
- Marc Jeune, 19, of Jersey City
- Elvin Borbon, 32, of Jersey City
- Rodney Chappel, 38, of Jersey City
- Aliquan Hatten, 38, of Jersey City
Following the raid, the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services ordered the store to cease operating and issued the owner citations for violating health codes, prosecutors said.
Champagne is facing multiple charges, including two counts of conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. He was also charged with multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin.
