Code Blue Issued In Hudson County: Here's How To Help Someone Homeless Or Cold
Do you know a person or family who's left out in the cold in Hudson County this week? Here's how they can get help through Friday.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Where can someone go if they have no heat, or if they're out in the cold amid freezing temperatures this week?
Because of the temperatures, the county of Hudson has activated its "Code Blue" protocol, providing help and warming centers for those who need them.
A Code Blue Alert has been issued through Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024.

Towns in New Jersey tend to call for a Code Blue when: "According to the National Weather Service (1) the temperature will reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower; or (2) a windfall temperature of zero degrees Fahrenheit or less for a period of two (2) hours or more."
When a Code Blue is activated, the county will find a warming center for people who need it for the overnight hours.

One North Jersey OEM noted, "If you are aware of any unsheltered homeless individuals or find yourself homeless in need of a warming center, please ... call 2-1-1 to access a shelter."
Hudson County has two daytime warming centers: the PERC shelter in Union City, and St. Lucy's in Jersey City. The list is here, by county.

The temperatures were expected to drop to 22 on Wednesday night. Temps will start to warm up again on Friday, but there's a 50 percent chance of some snow on Saturday.
