Cop Spent 130 Hours At Home While On Duty, Hudson County Prosecutors Say

A police officer was arrested for spending hours at home when he was supposed to be working, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A North Bergen police officer was arrested last Monday for allegedly spending hours at home while he was supposed to be on duty, prosecutors said.

Rasheed Siyam, 27, was charged Monday with third-degree theft by deception (false impression), said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors alleged that from November 2024 through May of this year, he "returned to his home while on duty for extended periods of time."

He was arrested at the Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City and then released to await his first court appearance, prosecutors said.

'Retaliation' For Defecating Chief Suit: Lawyer

Siyam is among five officers who, as reported by Patch in March, filed a lawsuit accusing their police chief of various forms of abuse. READ MORE: Police Chief Defecated In Office, Put Viagra In Office Coffee, NJ Cops Claim

Siyam's lawyer said last week that he believes the arrest was retaliation for that suit. "That cannot be any more obvious, based upon the timing alone," the lawyer noted. Read more about that here: READ MORE: Hudson County Cop's Arrest Was Retaliation For Suit Against Chief, Lawyer Says
