Peak Flood Risk: Hudson County OEM Gives Timeline For Heaviest Rains
With as much as 3 inches of rain predicted in Hudson County Monday, the county's Office of Emergency Management gave more details.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Hudson County's Office of Emergency Management has warned that heavy rains Monday evening could flood poor drainage areas and low-lying roadways.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Hudson County from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m.
The county OEM said, "The peak of numerous shower, storm and downpour activity looks to be approximately 4 - 11 p.m., at which point our concern for flooding heightens. Storms and downpours will be torrential, with high rainfall rates that will quickly overwhelm drainage systems. As a result, watch for many areas of roadway flooding, centered around the evening rush."

They added, "While a slightly lower chance, stream & creek flooding is still likely to occur in scattered locales. Any places where localized greater rainfall amounts of 2 - 3"+ are realized would see more significant issues. Activity tapers back this evening, with just a spotty shower overnight."
In the Hoboken area, flooding is most likely when more than .8 inches of rain fall within an hour, and can also increase leading up to and during high tide.
