Former Vacant Jersey City Lot Home To Business Incubator
Dubbed 'Container Village,' the lot on Martin Luther King Drive is now a community-centered retail and art hub.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Local entrepreneurs have a new space to get their local businesses up and running in Jersey City.
The city has transformed a vacant lot along Martin Luther King Drive into what it calls "Container Village."
Four shipping containers have been repurposed and upgraded with heat, air conditioning, and lights. They are also sustainable structures because of their "green" roofs and ability to absorb rainwater.

The space will provide local business owners with no-cost storefronts that are open during normal business hours, officials said.
Creating the incubator was part of an investment by city officials into the Bergen-Lafayette area of Jersey City.

"Container Village is a cost-effective initiative to not only bolster our efforts supporting new and growing small businesses, but also expanding upon our investment to revitalize the area, bringing tangible change, stimulating the local economy, and ultimately encouraging future business opportunities as well," said Mayor Steven Fulop.
