FEMA To Host Informational Jersey City Meetings On Storm Ida Damage Relief

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City residents will have another opportunity to talk to Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives and get important information on storm damage relief.

FEMA reps will be in Jersey City the next two weeks for three community meetings on the federal and local resources available for flood damage relief. Earlier this month, FEMA reps toured the city's six wards and set up shop in each to give residents the opportunity to chat directly and ask questions.

The upcoming community meetings are as follows:

• Monday, 9/27 6 - 8 p.m.
  • City Hall Annex 4, Kearny Ave

• Wednesday, 9/29 6 - 8 p.m.
  • City Hall Caucus Room, 280 Grove St.

• Monday, 10/4 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Gallo Community Center @ Lincoln Park
  • West Side Ave

Jersey City councilors turned their attention to SUEZ and have agreed to form an ad hoc committee to find out what hindered a timely response for clean water.

When flooding as serious as Tropical Storm Ida occurs, its extremely helpful that American towns or counties qualify under FEMA as "major disaster areas" because residents can then apply for federal funding.

If you live or own a business in those six original counties on FEMA's list, and sustained storm-related losses, you can begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362). The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Things FEMA will help pay for include home repairs, temporary housing, low-cost loans and other programs to help recover from the effects of the storm.
