Jersey City Installs Temporary Showers Near Journal Square

'Where there [are] water and soap, there's hope,' Mayor Steven Fulop said, quoting one of the homeless people.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The city has installed showers near Journal Square as a way of building trust among homeless people in the city.

The showers are self-contained and mobile. Mayor Steven Fulop said the showers are part of the first step in the city building trust with homeless people in Journal Square. The goal is to help them move from Journal Square into safer and better shelter with services to help them.

"Building trust is the first step," Fulop said. "Our goal is eventually to help with addiction or mental health issues here, but again, the first step is trust."
