Jersey City Native Is Division III Regional Track Athlete Of The Year
Cheickna Traore and four other Ramapo Roadrunners are at the NCAA Division III track and field championships this weekend in Ohio.

MAHWAH, NJ — Ramapo College junior Cheickna Traore was named regional men's track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the college announced.
Traore, of Jersey City, was named athlete of the year for the Metro Region.
He is one of five Roadrunners at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Thursday in Ohio. Traore will compete in the 200-meter and 400-meter events and is ranked in the top five for both events.

Traore was also named Metro Indoor Athlete of the year and finished fourth overall in the indoor NCAA championships, where he got his first career All-American honor. He set a meet record in the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Outdoor Championships earlier this month.
He holds school records in all three sprint outdoor events.

In Ohio with Traore this week is the women's 4x100 team: sophomore Delilah Cruz of North Caldwell and three freshmen; Rebecca Kneppel of Bloomingdale, Meredith Yaskovic of Branchville, and Gbarper Dwah of Lincoln Park.
