Jersey City Voter Guide 2021: Who's Running, When To Vote

The general election is on Nov. 2, but you can vote earlier by mail. Check out our voter guide before you cast your ballot.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The general election is only a few weeks away, and Hudson County residents will be able to cast their votes on state and local races.

This year, there are three ways to vote, and a number of decisions to make, including an election for governor.
Here's what to know ahead of this year's elections:

Who And What Are On The Ballot?

  • Governor's race: Gov. Murphy is running for reelection this year against Republican Jack Ciattarelli, Madelyn Hoffman (Green Party), Gregg Mele (Libertarian) and Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party).
  • State Senate: In New Jersey's 33rd District, Incumbent State Sen. Brian Stack, a Democrat, will be challenged for his seat by Agha Kahn, a Republican.
  • Assembly: Incumbent Assembly members Raj Mukherji and Annette Chaparro, both Democrats, will be challenged for their seats for Republicans Marcos Marte and Jacob Curtis. See Chaparro's submitted election profile here.

  • Jersey City Mayor And Council: In Jersey City, 24 candidates filed and made it onto November's ballot. There are nine open spots on the City Council and the race of Mayor. Where And How To Vote

In-person early voting: Early voting locations in Hudson County will be open from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Find out more here.

In-person on election day:

Voting will be available at regular polling locations in 2021. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to8 p.m. Specific polling locations will be listed on sample ballots, but can also be found here.

Mail-in ballot and drop boxes:
A voter may vote by mail by completing the Application for Vote by Mail Ballot and returning the application to the County Clerk's Office. To receive your ballot by mail, the application must be received by the County Clerk 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3 p.m., the day before the election. Get more information here.

If you don't want to mail it in by Election Day, there are a number of ballot drop boxes across the county, including at Jersey City Hall.
