Fugitive Charged In Death Of Man Who Crashed Car In Jersey City

A man who crashed his car into a tree in Jersey City in May was found with a bullet wound. On Thursday an arrest was made.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A fugitive has been arrested six months after his victim was found dying inside a car in Jersey City, prosecutors said.

Gerard Rosario, 28, of Jersey City was arrested by U.S. marshals on Wednesday in Union City, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

He was charged with murder and two weapons offenses, prosecutors said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 3, Jersey City police responded to a crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street, prosecutors said.

Police found an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat of a car that had crashed into a tree on Merritt Street.

Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth had a bullet wound to his neck, prosecutors said.

He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m.

Rosario has been taken to the Hudson County jail to await a first appearance in court.

The prosecutor credited the county Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the arrest.
