JERSEY CITY, NJ — A man who fatally stabbed another man on a Jersey City street on Friday had tried to steal his bicycle, according to court documents.

Roberto Camacho, 61, of Jersey City was charged Tuesday with murder, felony murder (during the commission of a robbery) and robbery, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday.

Camacho stabbed Joan Segovia, 26, just before 12:30 p.m. near First and Maxwell streets, prosecutors said.

The victim was taken to Jersey City Medical Center with a stab wound to his abdomen, prosecutors said. He was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m.

The police complaint in the case says that the stabbing took place after the pair argued over a bicycle.

Camacho "attempted to take the victim's bicycle, where an argument ensued,” the complaint says. “Camacho then retrieved an item from a bag within an adjacent structure and beg[an] to argue again with the victim. Ultimately, Camacho charged the victim and a physical altercation ensued."

Then, Segovia, holding his chest, headed toward Jersey Avenue, according to the complaint.

Camacho followed him with what appeared to be a wooden stick in one hand and a knife in the other, the complaint said.

Camacho took the bicycle and rode away toward Coles Street, the complaint says.

Jersey City police officers caught up with him near Center and Montgomery streets just before 1 p.m., the complaint says.

Camacho was initially charged with assault, theft, and weapons charges, according to the complaint.

He was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility and later charged with murder.

"We mourn the victim's passing and are keeping his family in our prayers," said Ward E Councilman James Solomon on social media last week. READ MORE: Argument Ends In Fatal Stabbing On Jersey City Street, Officials Say
