📰 News we're reading

• Pediatrics Offices In Hoboken, Jersey City Acquired By Major Hospital System (patch.com) — Families in Jersey City now have a local pediatric office formally integrated into The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, as Dr. Piotr Oko’s River Drive South practice joins a larger New Jersey system. The move follows recent pediatric office closures in Jersey City Heights and nearby towns, aiming to stabilize and expand children’s healthcare access while keeping existing office locations and appointment options in place.

• Hudson County Commissioner Touts $52K Award to Combat Gang Activity Through Jersey City Non-Profit Caring and Capable Hands (tapinto.net) — A Jersey City nonprofit, Caring and Capable Hands, has secured a $52,000 Hudson County grant to expand youth-focused programs aimed at preventing gang involvement and street violence. The funding, championed by Commissioner Jerry Walker, will support outreach, mentorship, and neighborhood safety initiatives developed with local partners to better protect at-risk residents.

• N.J. e-bike bill could shift injury costs to auto insurance customers (nj.com subscription) — State lawmakers are advancing a bill that would require all e-bikes in New Jersey to be registered and insured, potentially shifting some injury costs onto auto insurance customers. Jersey City riders and advocates, including a local Complete Streets organizer, are pushing back, arguing it adds barriers to mobility and doesn’t address real safety needs for people using e-bikes in cities like Jersey City.
