What's Closed In Jersey City After Storm Ida?

Several branches of the library and vaccination sites are closed due to flooding in Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Tropical Depression Ida may have moved past Jersey City, but she left a wreckage behind her. The city is working on cleaning up the destruction left behind, but several city-operated sites and buildings are closed due to flooding.

Three branches of the Jersey City Free Public Library are closed today due to flooding — West Bergen, Pavonia, and Marion Branches. The library's website was temporarily down due to network outages, but has since come back online Thursday morning.

All other library locations that were not flooded opened at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Mayor Steven Fulop, the broader region and Jersey City experienced anywhere between 8 and 10 inches of rain, overwhelming streets, homes and cars. There are close 100 cars abandoned in Jersey City's streets, Fulop said. The city is urging residents to stay off the roads as cleanup begins and the damage from the storm is assessed.

Once the immediate damage is handled, the city plans on sending fire crews to homes to pump water out of basements. Residents with flooded basements can call 911 and put their names on a list, "but we need people to be patient as the list is extensive," Fulop said.
