Tropical Depression Ida: Several Roads Flood In Jersey City

A flash flood warning is in effect throughout the city.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Buckets of water are pouring over Jersey City as Tropical Depression Ida makes her entrance to the area. A flash flood emergency is in effect throughout Jersey City with anywhere between 2 to 5 inches of rain falling.

Several roadways are heavily flooded, including parts of Jersey Avenue, Newark Street, 18th Street, Route 7, Charlotte Circle, Montgomery Street and others.

Residents are taking to Twitter to show the flooding taking over some streets.

The Newark to World Trade Center Path train is also affected by the storm, bypassing Harrison Station due to flooding.

Residents are urged not to travel and stay inside when possible. Never drive through flood waters and, when necessary, get to higher ground. The city is keeping residents in the loop over Twitter, tweeting the latest forecast updates and encouraging residents to sign up for Alert JC, the text message alert system that tells residents when weather, traffic or other related issues arise in the city.

Jersey City has 14 "repeat flooding" intersections throughout the city identified by the Jersey City's Municipal Utilities Authority. During heavy rains and flooding, drivers and residents should use extra caution and avoid the intersections when possible.

The intersections are as follows:

1) 9th Street & Brunswick Avenue

2) Linden Avenue & Princeton Avenue
3) Kellogg Street & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)
4) Westside Avenue & Audubon Avenue
5) Fisk Street & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)
6) Culver Avenue & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)
7) Grove Street Between Jersey City & Hoboken
8) Marin Blvd Between Jersey City & Hoboken
9) Merseles Street & Wayne Street
10) Center Street & Bright Street
11) Clendenny Avenue & Marcy Avenue
12) Richard Street just East of Garfield Avenue
13) Manholes on Montgomery Street (Florence St to Mill Rd)
14) Cornelison Avenue
