Lacey Man Upgraded to Serious Condition After Being Rescued from Pool

Police re-established James Carlo's pulse and had him airlifted to the hospital after he was found submerged in his in-ground pool

A Lanoka Harbor man who was found submerged in his in-ground pool earlier this month was upgraded from critical condition to serious at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to hospital spokesperson Maureen Gillespie. 

, July 8 after a Nautilus Boulevard resident reported that her 77-year-old disabled husband James Carlo had been submerged within their pool.

Carlo was floating on a raft in the shallow end of the in-ground pool when he fell off while momentarily unattended. He was found submerged in the deep end of the pool.

Patrolman Keith Pearce rescued Carlo from the pool. Pearce along with Officers Darrell Nick and Special Officer Richard Smialowicz performed CPR and reestablished a pulse.

Carlo was airlifted by MONOC One to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. As of Monday, Carlo was still listed in critical condition.

Lanoka Harbor EMS, MONOC Medics, the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department and the Lacey Township Diving Team assisted at the scene.
