
August will be a busy month in Lacey Township with everything from Lacey Day, an art show and yard sales taking place. Here's a glance at what's coming up:
Art Show
Lacey United Methodist’s fourth annual juried art show will begin Monday, July 30 and run through Saturday, Aug. 4.

The show will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, noon to 1:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
There is a $15 entry fee and a limit of five entries per person. Artwork can be dropped of on Sunday, July 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Judging will take place on Friday and ribbons will be given out for the Show Gala on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Circus
The Forked River Fire Department will be hosting the Cole Brother’s “Circus of the Stars” on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 5 from 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Jones Road Soccer Field, corner of Horner Lane.
Advanced ticket sales will be available at the Forked River Firehouse, located at Oak Street and Parker Ave. through Friday, August 3. Tickets sale times are Monday to Friday 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1 to 8 p.m. p.m.
Crabfest & Art Show
Lacey United Methodist’s 21st annual Crabfest will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4
The event will feature all you can eat crabs, clam chowder, cornbread, sausage and meatball sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs, desserts, beverages and more. There will also be entertainment, an art show, a flea market and family fun.
Admission is $20 for adults, $8 for seniors 62 years old and up, $10 for kids ages six to 13 and free for kids under six.
Eagle Scout Yard Sale
Kenneth Rapsas, 16, of Lacey Township is working on an Eagle Scout project that will make parts of Hebrew Park more handicapped accessible by building three deck walkways connecting one of the parking lots to the asphalt path by the pavilion.
Rapsas will also connect two deck walkways to the bathrooms.
To complete the project, Rapsas will need to raise approximately $2,000 to purchase the lumber required.
On Saturday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 5, Rapsas will be holding a yard sale and fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 403 Decker Court in Lanoka Harbor.

Lacey Elks Tropical Night
Tropical Night will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 6 to 11 p.m.
Admission is $20 per person and includes a “Caribbean” style meal served from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will also be entertainment provided by Lenny G and his band as well as steel drums and reggae music.
Tickets can be purchased at the Lacey Lodge or the pavilion Tiki Bar.
Proceeds from this event will benefit and assist special needs children in the community.
The will be hosting the New Jersey Elk’s South East District Flag Retirement Ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 5 at noon.
The event includes Exalted Rulers, members of the dignitaries from the District, the ceremonial retirement of the flag, firing of a 21-gun salute, live Taps and Color Guard participation.
Guest speaker Assemblywoman Diane C. Gove from legislative district nine, who serves on the New Jersey Military and Veteran’s Affairs Committee, will also be present.
The event is free and open to the public. The Lodge is located at 900 Beach Boulevard in Forked River. For more information call 609-693-1281.
Lacey Day will be held 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 11 at Gille Park on Manchester Avenue in Forked River. Organized annually by Lacey Township, the day features free hot dogs, hamburgers and ices, entertainment, games, demonstrations and local vendor information tables.
EMS Motorcycle Run
The Second Annual Lacey Township EMS Motorcycle Poker Run is Saturday, Aug. 11 with a rain date of Sunday, Aug. 12.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Lacey Township Municipal Building Parking Lot located at 818 West Lacey Road. Registration for the Poker Run is $15 if pre-registered and $20 the day of the event.
The poker run ends in Lacey Township at Gillie Park, with free refreshments and food along with the all the Lacey Day festivities. Best poker hand is announced at 3:00 p.m.

Lacey Elks Fishing Tournament
The 20th annual fishing tournament and awards barbeque will be Saturday, Aug. 11 beginning at 5 p.m. immediately following the tournament.
The awards barbeque is open to the public.
The Captain’s Meeting for the tournament will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Lacey Elks Point pavilion. At least one member of each boat must be present.
The event features Calcutta in each division. Prizes include $1,500 for the largest fluke and $1,000 for the largest bluefish. Prizes are based on a 100-boat minimum.
Admission to the awards barbeque is $20 per adult, $5 per person ages six to 12 years old and free for children under five.
The barbeque includes food and soft beverages.

Outdoor Summer Movie
The Lacey Chamber of Commerce is holding an outdoor movie at Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center on Thursday, Aug. 23.
Big Miracle starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski will be playing from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Admission is $5. Children under the age of two are free. Snacks and refreshments will be available.
To pre-order tickets, pick them up at ConvexSERV at 118 N. Main St. or PNC Bank at 702 Lacey Road.
Exelon Corporation is sponsoring the event. A portion of the proceeds will support the Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund.
Italian American Club Fish & Chips
The Italian American Club of Lacey is hosting a Fish & Chips dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Community Hall on Lacey Road and Route 9, Forked River.
The German Butcher will cater the event with coffee, tea and dessert, Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Jerry Spathis will provide the entertainment. Admission is $15 per person. Call 609-693-9639 for tickets.
