1 Man Killed, 1 Hospitalized After Lawrence Crash: Authorities

The crash happened early Thursday when an SUV hit a utility pole on Brunswick Pike, Lawrence police said.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — One man was killed and a second seriously injured when an SUV crashed into a utility pole early Thursday, Lawrence Township police said.

Delva Jonas, 49, of Trenton, was driving a 2003 Suzuki Vitara when it hit a utility pole on Brunswick Pike at the Whitehead Road circle about 1:40 a.m., Lawrence police said.

Jonas was seriously injured in the crash and taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

His front-seat passenger, Jean Pierre, 50, of Trenton, was killed in the crash, police said.

The crash is still under investigation by Detective James Steimle of the Lawrence Township Police Department and Detective Ryan Minnick of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team.
