Black Bear Last Seen on Province Line Road

A juvenile black bear continued its trip around the Princetons on Wednesday and was last seen about 3:30 p.m., when it was spotted on Province Line Road heading west out of town, according to Princeton Township Police.

It's unclear where the bear came from, but neighboring South Brunwick Police received The sightings were reported on Route 27, on Promenade Boulevard, and off Raymond Road in South Brunswick.

the bear was spotted on Tyson Lane, N. Harrison Street, Linden Lane and Nassau Street in the Princetons. It was last seen on Nassau Street around 10:45 p.m. 

On Wednesday morning, the bear was seen in the area of Alexander Street heading towards the Institute for Advanced Study, police said.  A short time later, it was spotted near Canal Road, according to West Windsor Police.

Reverse 911 calls about the bear sightings were put out to residents between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. 

Princeton Borough Police Lt. Robert Currier said he saw the bear on Tuesday night and estimated it to be about 150 pounds.

The number of black bears in New Jersey is on the rise, representatives from the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife's Black Bear Project told residents last month.

Borough Police advise residents to take the following precautions:

• Be aware of your surroundings.
• If you spot the bear, do NOT approach it. 
• DO, however, make sure it knows you are there- make noise.
• Do NOT feed the bear.
• Secure your garbage.
• Bring pets inside
