Cancer Survivor, Paralympic Racer to Speak at Rider

Josh Sundquist, a best-selling author, motivational speaker, cancer survivor and paralympic ski racer, will speak during Rider University’s Relay for Life Kickoff Presentation on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.

The event begins at 8:30 p.m. in Sweigart Auditorium, Room 115, on the Lawrence Township campus, 2083 Lawrence Rd.
 
Sundquist, a member of the 2006 U.S. Paralympic Ski and U.S. Amputee Soccer teams, will talk about overcoming one’s disabilities and fighting cancer.

At the age of nine, he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and given a 50 percent chance to live. He spent a year on chemotherapy treatments and his left leg was amputated. Doctors declared him cured of the disease at age 13, and he took up ski racing three years later. He trained for the next six years and in 2006, he was named to the U.S. Paralympic Ski Team for the 2006 Paralympics in Turino, Italy.
 
Sundquist served a two-year tenure as the National Spokesperson for the Combined Federal Campaign, an effort that raises over $300 million dollars a year for charities. He has been featured on the back of Doritos bags nationwide for being the founder of LessThanFour.org, the world’s largest social networking website for amputees.
 
He has been featured on CNN, USA TODAY, and NPR. His memoir, Just Don’t Fall, was a national bestseller. He holds a degree in business from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in Communications from the University of Southern California. He lives in Washington, DC.
 
The lecture is sponsored by the Lawrenceville Student Government Association Diversity Committee and by the Rider University Relay for Life Committee. Rider’s Relay for Life will be held from 8 p.m. on Saturday March 24, to 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 25.
