County Clerk Office Unveils New Computer System

Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello announced that the County Clerk’s Office has installed a new cutting-edge computer system for the recording of land and property records. The new MS Windows-based system, used in four other New Jersey counties, was planned and installed over the past year and was implemented live last week.

The new system adds a host of features to improve the speed and efficiency of record searching for both the County Clerk’s staff and the public. Records Next Generation (Records NG) presents the county’s land records in a simple, user-friendly format.

The hallmarks of the new system are that it automatically links together and interconnects information on deeds, titles, mortgage and lien documents, and much more. The new system brings together Mercer County land records dating back to 1997 with just a few clicks of the mouse. Within two years, it is expected that deed and mortgage records dating as far back as 1957 will be scanned and incorporated into the new system as well.

The new $700,000 system replaces a slow, outdated 15-year-old system that was not compatible with today’s technology including laptops and laser printers. The upgrade was funded entirely through the County Clerk’s Special Trust Fund, which is dedicated to improvements in the Clerk's Office, derived from recorder’s user fees and not county tax dollars.
