Fatal Sideswipe Collision Kills Mercer Co. Man, Police Say

HAMILTON, NJ - A Mercer County driver was killed Saturday afternoon following a sideswipe crash outside a bar and restaurant in Hamilton, police said.

At about 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, a 2019 Honda Accord turned left from the driveway of Killarney’s Publick House (1644 Whitehorse Mercerville Road) onto northbound Whitehorse Mercerville Road, colliding in a “side swipe manner” with a 2015 Land Rover SUV also traveling northbound on Whitehorse Mercerville Road, Hamilton police said in a statement.

The crash caused the Land Rover to leave the roadway, strike a utility pole and then re-enter the roadway, police said. The driver of the Land Rover, Joseph J. Celinski, 35, of Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda came to a “controlled stop” on Whitehorse Mercerville Road, police added. The driver, identified as Steven D. Brokowsky, 39, also of Hamilton, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton via ambulance.

The crash is under investigation by Sergeant R. Gray and Officers K. McDonald and P. Micharski from the Hamilton Police Department Traffic Unit.
