Fundraiser Set Up For Family Of Lawrence Boy Killed By Falling Tree
The 12-year-old was a 7th grader at Lawrence Middle School.
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of the 12-year-old Lawrence Township boy who died after a tree fell on him.
The boy was playing with a friend in the backyard just after noon on Monday when the tree was blown over by gusty winds, striking the boy and causing fatal injuries, Police Chief Chris Longo said.
Lawrence Township Public Schools shared a letter with the community and identified the boy as 12-year-old Lucas Schwartz. He was a 7th grader at Lawrence Middle School.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family. Many students and staff will be affected by this news, as this student previously attended Eldridge Park Elementary followed by Lawrence Intermediate School,” Superintendent Robyn A. Klim said.
The school district announced it will have counselors available this week to assist students and staff.

In addition, therapy dogs and members of the Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition will be on school grounds to provide assistance.
Friends and family members have started a GoFundMe with an aim to raise $20,000 for Schwartz’s family. As of Wednesday, $17,000 was raised by the community.
A meal train was also set up, with the local community contributing to support the family.
