Lawrence Completes Upgrades To Hamnett Park

A grand opening celebration for the full set of park improvements will be scheduled soon.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The major renovation project at Lawrence Township's Hamnett Park is now complete, township officials said.

The updated park now includes two new dog park areas for large and small dogs, as well as numerous passive recreational improvements.

"We're very excited to unveil these great new amenities at Hamnett Park and Hero Dog Park for
our residents to enjoy," Mayor Patricia Hendricks Farmer said in a media statement.

"The dog park will provide a safe, enclosed area for pets to run and play, while the other upgrades create more opportunities for walking, relaxing, and taking in nature."

With a project budget of $500,000, approximately $250,000, went towards constructing
the two dog park areas, officials said. New fencing, landscaping, shade structures, benches, and dog park equipment were installed.

The remaining $250,000 was invested into passive recreational improvements such as a new
perimeter walking path, lighting, electrical service, water service, patio seating area, and
landscaping, according to officials.

Lawrence Township anticipates receiving a $125,000 grant from the Mercer at Play program to help offset the costs.

The dog park areas is expected to open to the public in the next 60 days.

The Public Works Department is currently working on the lawn areas.
