If you are a middle or high school student excited about learning or seeking to take the next step on a particular course of study, then the Lawrenceville Summer School may be the perfect place for you this summer.

Courses are being offered in three- and six-week sessions, between June 25-Aug. 3, in English, math, science, and the humanities. All classes will be held on Lawrenceville's historic campus (2500 Main St., Lawrenceville, N.J.) in air conditioned, state-of-the-art classrooms.

Classes will take place between 8:00 a.m. - 12:20 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please note that the Summer School is a day school and thus does not offer residential housing for students during the program.

Classes will be held around oval (Harkness) tables, where students will share in the learning experience by asking questions, listening thoughtfully, and offering their opinions. This creates a vibrant atmosphere where students are able to take intellectual risks and learn to appreciate the ideas of their peers.

Classes will be kept small (a maximum of 12 students) to facilitate constant interaction between students and teachers and among the students themselves. Experienced and dedicated teachers will help students develop their critical thinking skills and become aware of their learning styles and habits. Students will learn to assess and monitor their own learning and teachers will actively help students "learn how to learn."

Two types of courses are available:

Comprehensive Courses: An accelerated version of a full year's study. Ideal for students looking to preview an upcoming class in their regular school year or to have a chance to review a course they've already taken. Students can receive credit for these classes with the approval of their high school. Offerings include Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus.

Electives: Three-week non-credit courses that provide an interesting introduction or a closer examination to a host of topics in English, math, science, and the humanities. Courses include: Language Structures: Sentences and Stories; Heroes & Heroines, Monsters & Demons; Writing Practice Through Creative Writing, Making Worlds with Words, Biomimicry; From Farm to Table; Forensics, The Great Apes; China: Past to Present; and The Civil War.
