Snow Results in Cancelled Events, Minor Traffic Wrecks

A free rabies clinic for dogs, two bird watching classes for beginners, and all Lawrence Township public school athletic events were cancelled and several minor traffic accidents were reported as a result of the snow that fell today, Jan. 21.

About 3 inches of snow and ice have fallen across much of Lawrence Township from the winter storm that began early this morning (Saturday, Jan. 21).

While no major crashes have been reported and township public works crews have been out all morning plowing, the roads in many places are slippery and Lawrence Township police have responded to several accidents in which vehicles slid off the roadway.

Among these, according to police, were a wreck in which a vehicle hit a pole on Denow Road and another on Keefe Road where a vehicle ended up in a ditch.

As a result of the snow, Lawrence Township health department officials decided to postpone the free rabies clinic that had been scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. today at Central Park on Eggerts Crossing Road.

The rabies clinic has been rescheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. next Saturday, Jan. 28, at a location yet to be announced.

Also cancelled because of the snow were two “Beginner Birding” classes for adults and children that were to be held this morning at the Lawrence Nature Center on Drexel Avenue.

The Lawrence Township school district also cancelled all athletic events that had been scheduled to take place today.

Lawrence Township volunteer firefighters have also responded to a few calls today, none of which were serious in nature.

It was also announced on Friday, in advance of the storm, that the Mom’s Club of Lawrenceville-East's annual "" had been postponed from today and will now be held at Lawrence High School from 10 a.m. to noon next Saturday, Jan. 28.
