Walking Tour of D&R Canal in Lawrence Set for Feb. 5
On Sunday, Feb. 5, Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will host a free guided walking tour of a 4.1-mile section of the canal between Carnegie Road in Lawrence and the Trenton Battle Monument.

The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold a free walking tour of the Delaware & Raritan Canal in Lawrence Township and Trenton on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The walk will explore the part of the canal from Carnegie Road in Lawrence to the Trenton Battle Monument, a distance of 4.1 miles. There will an opportunity for a shorter 2.9-mile walk to Mulberry Street in Trenton.Â

Participants will explore a less well-known section of the canal.
The portion between Carnegie Road and Whitehead Road is heavily wooded but the canal shifts to a more urban setting farther south. The walk includes a recently opened path south of Mulberry Street where the canal is diverted into a culvert below the Trenton Freeway.

Canal Watch board member Bob Barth will explain the many notable sites and features of the canal during the walk.Â
Meet 10 a.m. at the Trenton Battle Monument, 348 N. Warren St., Trenton, at the intersection of Broad Street (Route 206) and Pennington Road (Route 31).  Carpools will be arranged to allow a one-way walk.
