A Taxpayer's Guide to the Colts Neck School District

The Colts Neck School District budgeted $17,118 per student last year.

The Colts Neck Township Board of Education budgeted $17,118 per student for the current school year, according to the NJ Department of Education (NJ DOE).

The dpeartment's guide breaks down the amount by category, including classroom instruction, supplies, benefits and salaries.

The Colts Neck K-8 district spent $10,524 per student for classroom instruction, and $2,577 per student for support services.

Support services includes areas which supplement daily classroom instruction, including "attendance, social work, health and guidance services, educational media/school library services and the child study team," according to the NJ Department of Education.

The district spent $10,034 per student on salaries and benefits for teachers, staff and administration, a $60 decrease from the previous budget.

Administrative costs totaled $1,812 per student, and legal services totaled $20 per student. Supplies and classroom textbooks totaled $381 per student.

In the 2013-14 budget, Colts Neck lowered the budget but residents will see a one percent tax increase. 

Business Administrator John Paredes said the increase is a combination of decreased enrollment and decreased assessed value in the township as well as and enhancements to the educational programs.
