UPDATE: Victim of Marlboro House Fire Identified, Cigarette Caused Flames

Improper disposal of a cigarette was the determined cause of the fire.

This story was updated on Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. after autopsy information was released.

A fire in a School Road home early Saturday morning claimed the life of an 87-year-old resident.

According to Charles Webster of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Marie Minns did not dispose of a cigarette correctly and accidentally set herself on fire.

Minns home health aid was also injured with burns to the hand after trying to extinguish the flames.

The fire was contained within the home.
