"Because of this, and the fact that I am not in favor of the direction this board been going for at least the past year, I am resigning from the Marlboro Township Board of Education effective immediately."

The board member did not say specifically what his differences with the board were, and could not be reached for comment by Patch. Board members moved to accept the resignation, and no further discussion was had.

Last year, Waldman was of the dissenting opinion to move school board elections to November, saying the removal of the public's right to vote on the budget was something he wasn't comfortable with.

However, Waldman has been absent from several meetings since the fall, including a meeting in January which addressed the 90-day trial of cops in schools in a lengthy public session.

According to a posting on the district website, the board is looking to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. The chosen applicant will be appointed by the board to fill the vacancy, then run in November as a candidate to solidify the seat.

Interested residents may apply for this vacant post by submitting both a letter of interest and  an  accompanying personal resume on or before 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 to:

Cindy S. Barr-Rague, Business Administrator/Board Secretary
Marlboro Township Board of Education
1980 Township Drive
Marlboro, NJ  07746

Interviews of candidates must be in public session, according to Barr-Rague.
