Mountain Way School Beats the Heat with $2,500 Donation

The money will be used for a stand-alone shade structure.

With a high of 90 on Thursday for Morris Plains and summer creeping up around the corner, staff and students at Mountain Way School will be thankful for some shade.

On Tuesday night, the Morris Plains School District accepted a $2,459 donation from the Morris Plains Home & School Association for a stand-alone shade structure.

The board also accepted a $1,000 donation from the Honeywell Hometown Solutions through its Dollars for Doers program. The program recognized the volunteer service of Lucia Galdi and Scott Bober.

The board also approved two murals to be painted during the summer as part of the Paint the Town Summer Program. The program is run by the Morris Plains Recreation. Morris Plains Art Teacher Kirstin Howie and the students enrolled in the summer program will paint two murals in the Borough School Health Room and the Art and Music Room at Mountain Way School from July 22-25 and from July 29-Aug. 1.

On Wednesday, the third grade will take a field trip to Knoll Country Club, Lake Hiawatha. The trip will teach students culture awareness, American heritage, science and social studies. The board approved two Wilkerson buses for the trip at a total cost of $566.50. The total cost per student is $22.45, which includes admission and transportation.
