Beach Season Starts Saturday With a 5K Run and Fitness Walk

A 5-kilometer event is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 19.

The third annual Miles for Melanoma 5K Race and Fitness Walk in Memory of Andrea Sheridan is set to start at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19.

The event takes place on the beach at 34th Street. The race will be run on the hard sand at low tide, and the course runs from 34th Street to 49th Street and back.

With sunny weather in the forecast for Saturday, the event provides a chance to get in some spring beach time ... and to raise funds for the Melanoma Research Foundation and to remember Andrea Sheridan, who died in May 2009 just two and a half months after being diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma.
