Mother's Day Concert Honors the Late Esther C. Weil

The West Chester Senior Strings Orchestra performs on the Ocean City Music Pier.

The West Chester Senior Strings Orchestra, under the direction of Charles de Pasquale, will return to the for the 15th annual Mother’s Day Concert on Sunday, May 13.

The program includes classical and contemporary music arranged for orchestra, ensemble and solo string performance and begins at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Over the years, this national award-winning orchestra, composed of advanced string music students from three high schools in West Chester, PA, has not only entertained local audiences but also inspired them with their musicianship. Charles de Pasquale, their teacher and conductor, is a cellist with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.

The Ocean City Art Center’s Friends of Music is proud to sponsor this annual event begun by Esther C. Weil in 1998. An avid supporter of music in Philadelphia and Ocean City, Mrs. Weil recognized the talent and professional musical quality conductor de Pasquale produces with his student orchestra.  The Mother’s Day Concert is dedicated to her memory.

ALSO ON MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND:

May 12-13: In recognition of the Mothers Day Weekend, participating Downtown Merchants will present the annual "Mothers are Special Flower Giveaway." Free flowers to all Moms as long as supplies last.

May 12: Another event that mothers will appreciate is the spring Performing Arts Recital at the Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free program will feature entertainers from pre-school children to seniors who have taken advantage of the center's many programs.

There will be piano, guitar and dancing by students ranging in age from 4 years to teenagers and ballroom dance and Zumba exercise demonstrations by adults. Information will be available on summer arts classes. Call 609-399-7628.
