Sea Breeze Helps Ocean City Beat the Heat

South winds keep Ocean City cooler than the mainland.

With parts of New Jersey under an excessive heat warning with high humidity and temperatures in the 90s, Ocean City saw much cooler air on Tuesday — with a stiff south wind coming off the 65-degree ocean.

The beach and Boardwalk were jammed Tuesday with early vacationers and visitors off from school and work.

The forecast gets a little "darker" starting tonight. Showers are likely after midnight, and there's a chance of thunderstorms after 2 a.m. The showers could continue through the early afternoon on Wednesday.

Wednesday's high temperature in Ocean City is expected to be 71 degrees, and the marine forecast calls for light west winds turning northeast in the afternoon.

The surf on Tuesday was small and choppy under the strong south swell. If the winds do turn offshore on Wednesday morning, there's some chance conditions will improve. But it's not likely that Ocean City will see any swell from the distant Tropical Storm Beryl.
