Teen Stabbed, 11-Year-Old Shot During Jersey Shore Mayhem: Reports

Several Jersey Shore towns reported shootings, stabbings, fights and disorderly conduct over Memorial Day weekend, reports said.

NEW JERSEY — A number of towns along the Jersey Shore, many of which enacted curfews ahead of Memorial Day, handled multiple incidents of mayhem over the holiday weekend, including the stabbing of a teenager and the shooting of a child, reports said.

In Ocean City, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed after a fight broke out on the boardwalk Saturday night, CBS reported. The teen was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City with non-life-threatening injuries.

Though police didn’t say whether anyone was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing, multiple arrests were made related to other incidents on the boardwalk.

"As in recent years and in other shore towns, Ocean City experienced a number of issues related to large crowds of teens on the Boardwalk, fights, shoplifting and disorderly conduct during the start of Memorial Day Weekend," Ocean City Mayor Jay A. Gillian said in a statement. "I understand the impact that this behavior has on all of our residents, guests and business owners, and I want to assure everybody that Ocean City will not tolerate it."

The shots were fired after two women, Yanirah Davis, 22, and Yontay Cooper, 33, showed up in the area with a gun and other weapons intending to fight a group that they had a previous altercation with. Both women were arrested and charged in the shooting.

Meanwhile, in Wildwood, a state of emergency ended Monday at 6 a.m. and the boardwalk reopened after “numerous incidents of civil unrest” over the weekend, according to an alert from the Wildwood Police Department.

The boardwalk was closed after a crowd of teens ignored curfew, according to NJ.com.

“Out of an abundance of caution due to emergent conditions that have resulted from civil unrest threatening the public health, safety and welfare of our residents and visitors alike, the City of Wildwood has declared a state of emergency in order to maintain law and order within our jurisdiction,” police said in a statement issued Monday around 12:20 a.m.

There was also chaos at the Seaside Heights boardwalk after a “gunshot,” which was actually a car backfiring, was heard, causing teens and young adults to run from the area, ShoreNewsNetwork.com reported.
