In the tightest race of the night, Guinosso edged Price by less than 40 votes.

Both candidates have earned reputations as government watchdogs in their lives as citizens.

Guinosso said he's looking forward to working the new City Council, but he said Tuesday night that he would remain true to his roots — pushing for more transparency in government and for more accountability among public employees.

"Grassroots is about the community itself," he said.

In the Third Ward, the incumbent Wilson said he was "humbled, honored and flattered" by the support the ward showed him. His 870-254 victory was by the widest margin among the City Council races.

In the First Ward, DeVlieger said he was surprised by a wide margin of victory, and he complimented his opponent as a "hard worker and gentleman" who ran a great race.

DeVlieger said he's looking forward to being part of a new City Council team — "each brings his own dynamic," he said of the newly elected members.

DeVlieger said he sees infrastructure spending (roads, beach, bay, boardwalk) as part of the big picture of protecting investments that can return future dividends.

In the Second Ward, Antwan McClellan said Tuesday night that he was excited, overwhelmed and surprised by his victory. The incumbent school board member is a lifelong Ocean City resident and an Ocean City High School graduate.
