East Brook Students Appreciate Senator Menendez Visit

The 6th graders at East Brook got a lesson on how government is run when Senator Robert Menendez visited last week.

Learning about how the government is run is an essential part of what our youngsters are taught while in grade school. What better way to learn about government than to have a government official stop by and talk about it first hand.

Senator Robert Menendez visited East Brook last week to visit with the 6th grade. Menedez spent an hour sharing his experiences in Washington D.C. working as a Senator.

Everything from how bills are made to sharing pictures of his meetings with leaders of countries as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was covered.

When the students finished asking their questions, Menendez presented the school with a flag that had flown over the United States Capitol. Students expressed their gratitude.

Here is a bit of what the sixth graders had to say after Menendez visited:
  • “I respect your opinions and thoughts abou the government shutdown and the attacks in Syria."
  • “I wish I could be you for a day. It must be really fun to be a Senator.”
  • “When you came it was amazing because I was looking at one out of 100 Senators! That was one of the most exciting things that has happened to me.”
