After the death of her husband in 1964, Ms. Clark worked for many years writing radio scripts until her agent convinced her to write novels. Her debut novel, a fictionalized account of the life of George Washington, did not sell well and she decided to try a different genre - mystery and suspense. As of 2007, Ms. Clark has sold more than 80 million copies of suspense novels.

She has written three collections of short stories, an historical novel, a memoir and two children’s books. Ms. Clark also co-authored five suspense novels with her daughter Carol Higgins Clark. Two of her novels were made into feature films and many of her other works into television films. Her latest suspense novel, “The Lost Years” was released in April 2012.
