In the month of October, Judith Brice will be exhibiting her abstract paintings at the Haworth Library. Brice is a longtime native of the area, and in recent years has turned her focus to painting. She began this journey studying art appreciation through a gallery tour course given by the JCC of Tenafly. This enabled her to her dream of painting her own work.
Judy's approach to life has always been to "Live in the moment with an open heart." This led her to study with Edla Cusick at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey for the last five years, where she found her voice in abstraction. Judi uses her inner compass as her guide creating paintings which evoke inner landscapes. Her compositions explore color and gesture giving shape to her emotions. Her paintings are executed in a range of sizes, and are primarily oil on canvas. These works document her personal journey finding her artistic voice . Her inspirations are noted and familiar painters such as Joan Mitchell, Willima DeKooning and Phillip Guston.
Her work is currently also on view at Academy Square in Montclairas part of a group exhibition entitled Shades of Abstraction, organized by Studio Montclair curators Patricia Selden and Pam Cooper - on view till Dec 18, 2012.
