Free Rabbies Shots for Dogs, Cats Next Week
Paramus Board of Health conducts its annual free rabbies clinics over a 2-day period - one day for dogs, one day for cats.

The Paramus Board of Health reminds Borough residents that its annual free Rabies Clinic for dogs and cats will be held on Wednesday, May 8 (dogs only) and Thursday, May 9 (cats only) from 7 to 9 p.m.
The clinic will be held at the Life Safety Building located at the rear of the DPW municipal garage off Carlough Drive.
One (1) year and three (3) year licenses will be available. A one (1) year license fee for a neutered/spayed pet costs $12; a non-neutered pet requires a fee of $15. A three year license fee for a neutered/spayed pet is $30; a non-neutered pet requires a fee of $40.00.
Borough Health Officer Judith Migliaccio stated that the (3) three year vaccine will again be used, but that dogs or cats who are less than 12-months old, and animals with no history of vaccination, will require revaccination one year later. All dogs must be leashed and accompanied by an adult. Cats must be restrained in an enclosed pet carrier.
This program is for all dogs and cats whose last rabies shots were between May 2010 and May of 2012.
Migliaccio suggests to check the vaccination certificate as to the due date. She also stresses the importance of being aware that rabies is present in wild animals throughout Bergen County. If a non-vaccinated dog or cat sustains wounds of unknown origin, the State of New Jersey recommends euthanasia. Therefore, it is vital that all dogs and cats be vaccinated and licensed.
