Guidetti Officially Sworn in as Paramus Police Captain [VIDEO/PHOTOS]

Lifelong Paramus resident has been with the police department for more than 25 years.

Paramus Police Captain Robert Guidetti officially took the oath of office Tuesday night in front of a packed house.

Guidetti, a lifelong resident and member of the Paramus Police Department since 1987, was promoted to Captain last month and has been serving in the role since.

Tuesday night he was honored by his fellow police officers, the borough council and the community with a swearing in ceremony which included the police honor guard, of which he is a founding member, and the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County.

"It's an equally proud day for the borough of Paramus to have another fine gentleman and human being to lead what I consider one of the best departments in Bergen county and the state of New Jersey. I know everyone underneath him will be in good hands," said Mayor Richard LaBarbiera.

Acting Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said, "I can't think of a better person for this position" of his longtime colleague and friend. Guidetti has been the head of the department's anti-crime unit and has been commander of the detective division for more than a year and a half, said Ehrenberg.

Guidetti is also lifetime firefighter for more than 30 years.

Ehrenberg also thanked the mayor and council "for continued support with the transformation and rebuilding of the Paramus Police Department."

LaBarbiera and the council also named six members of the police department, all currently serving in acting positions, to permanent ones.

The following officers were named to their permanent positions:

  • Detective Lt. Robert Olive
  • Detective Sgt. Robert Mahanik
  • Detective Sgt. Robert Von Schalscha
  • Detective Sgt. Frank Scott
  • Detective Sgt. John Toohey
  • Detective Sgt. John Devine

"We are just trying to prop up what is already a good department and put into place permanent leadership," said LaBarbiera.
