Letter to the Editor About Ken Rota Firing: 'Our voices should be heard!'

"The Board of Education has been entrusted ... to serve in the best interests of its residents. I question if this is truly being done."

Dear Editor,

I write to you with deep reservations concerning some of the members of the Paramus Board of Education and the vote not to renew the contract of Superintendent of Schools, Ken Rota.

The Board of Education has been entrusted by the citizens of Paramus to serve in the best interests of its residents. I question if this is truly being done. The timing of this vote concerns me, as it seems to have been rushed through this past December in the final weeks of a lame duck trustee’s term. With a decision of this importance and a 5-4 vote, I would like the current board to revote on the issue.

Ken Rota has been an advocate for this community since his term began, proving himself not only through the improvement in scores and facilities in the district, but also as a liaison to other organizations. He has collaborated with Paramus Rotary, Paramus Education Foundation, Paramus Stigma Free, Relay for Life and the Paramus Children’s Health Foundation. He has absolutely been an asset to our educational system during his tenure here.

I ask all Paramus residents to join me, and many others, in attending the Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 26th at 7:30 p.m. in the Paramus High School auditorium. Our voices should be heard!
