Man Armed With Tenderizing Hammer Robs Woman In Bergen: Police

The local man, while carrying a meat tenderizer, allegedly robbed a woman of her phone, purse and $400 in cash, police said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A local man wielding a meat tenderizer swiped a phone, purse, credit cards and about $400 in cash from a woman, according to authorities.

Rickent Carrasco, of Cliffside Park, was linked to the Monday armed robbery of the 45-year-old woman, and he was shortly thereafter found and apprehended, Bergenfield police Capt. William Duran said.

Carrasco, while carrying the tenderizing hammer, had allegedly robbed the Little Falls woman at about 10:20 a.m. near Sylvan Avenue and Murray Hill Terrace in Bergenfield, police said.

The 33-year-old had fled the scene yet was found nearby with the weapon and the woman's belongings, and was then arrested, police added.

The woman was not injured, and the stolen items were returned to her, police said.

The accused was charged with robbery and weapons offenses, and taken to the Bergen County Jail, pending an initial court appearance, the captain said.

"We would like to recognize our officers for their quick actions to locate Carrasco and take him into custody without further incident during a potentially volatile situation," Capt. Duran said.
